V12 reeds, cut from the same size cane tubes as an alto saxophone reeds, have a thicker heel and a thicker tip than the Traditional reed. With a longer palette, more of the reeds vibrates, allowing a deeper, richer sound. The tip gives more body to the attack and can help increase the lifespan of the reed.
