Our story...

Who we are

Tenor Madness is one of the premier saxophone shops in the world, specializing in top end vintage and modern saxophones as well as designing and hand assembling the TM Custom line of saxophones. With almost 75 years of combined experience, the standard of excellence in the shop is at an all time high, and whether performing an overhaul, setup, play condition or custom building a saxophone, Tenor Madness continues to work until each and every instrument has reached it's maximum playing potential.

For the past 21 years, much of the repair work in the shop has been restoring vintage saxophones and optimizing modern saxophone setups. This experience has provided Tenor Madness with unique insights on saxophone repair, design and setup allowing us to bring out the best in every saxophone. Whether it is playing, repairing, selling, designing, or building, everyone in the shop shares an intense passion for saxophone and is on a continual journey to further their craft.

Tenor Madness is located in Waterloo, Iowa.

Meet the crew!

Randy & Shirley

Owners | Head of Repairs | Accounts

Randy and his wife Shirley opened Tenor Madness in the 1980's after working many years at the Samar Music and West Music shops building a reputation for the finest saxophone and woodwind work. Randy also launched his own line of saxophones known as the TM Custom line. Right now, Randy and Shirley love gigging with their band Deja Blue.

Simon

Vintage Pro Shop Manager

Simon began working at Tenor Madness in 2016. He took over the vintage side of the business due to his vast experience performing on and buying/selling vintage saxophones throughout the years. Aside from his many honors as a saxophonist, Simon loves arguing with Jimmy over how to make the best cup of coffee and who can catch the most fish. In his free time, he enjoys road trips with his beautiful wife and two hilarious sons.

Jimmy

Clarinet/Flute Repair | Mouthpiece Refacing/Repair

Jimmy has been a repair tech at Tenor Madness since 2016 when he graduated from WSU with his Master's degree in saxophone performance. Before working at TM, Jimmy was growing in reputation as one of the finest mouthpiece refacers in the country. In his free time, Jimmy likes to fish and kayak with the rest of the TM Crew (Thomas never comes). He boasts a gold rank on League of Legends and sometimes takes breaks to hang out with Jordan and their pup Severus.

Thomas

Head Repair Technician

Thomas has been with Tenor Madness since 2006. In his free time, he loves playing guitar and accordion. He is a vintage computer collector and enjoys rebuilding broken computers. He is an avid video game collector who has never beaten a game (like, ever). He has 3 children and a wonderful wife who is the best person he's ever known.

Nolan

TM Repair Technician | Saxophone Repair

Nolan is a Woodwind Repair Tech at Tenor Madness. He has been with the company for 5 years, spending most of his time setting up TM Custom tenors. Outside of work, he is a professional musician, composer, and arranger. His performing styles range from classical to jazz, blues and rock to traditional Brazilian choro music. In his free time, Nolan loves nothing more than to kick back and fish the many local rivers and lakes.

Jordan

Office Manager | Media Manager | Photographer

Jordan handles an extensive lists of tasks at Tenor Madness such as photography, graphic design, the resonator business, and keeping the guys in line. One of the most challenging tasks in her time here has been redesigning the website to bring it into the 21st century! She loves nothing more than to hike with Jimmy and their beautiful Weimaraner Severus (featured in a few TM ads!). And, unlike Thomas, she does beat video games frequently.
